The mean minimum infusion rate of remifentanil was 0.024 g/kg/min (Table 2). Among five of the 92 patients, a infusion rate lower than the specified initiation rate of 0.025 g/kg/min of remifentanil was administered; infusion reduction after the end of administration (two), infusion reduction due to sufficient effect (two), and AE (one).
At remifentanil infusion rates 1 mcg/kg per minute, consider increases in dosage of concomitant anesthetic agent(s) to increase depth of
The final mean (/-SD) remifentanil infusion rates were 0.12 /- 0.05 microgram.kg-1.min-1 (remifentanil) and 0.07 /- 0.03 microgram.kg-1.min-1 (remifentanil
Remifentanil is a potent and ultra short acting opoid agonist with a pharmacokinetic profile suited to administration as an infusion. For induction and maintenance of anaesthesia, remifentanil may be administeredas a target controlled infusion (TCI) or as a manually controlled infusion, where the rate is adjusted by the operator.
An alternative treatment is to decrease the infusion rate of remifentanil or to discontinue the infusion. It is yet unclear what dose of remifentanil correlates to the frequency of muscle rigidity however, the incidence of this side effect is less than 1% and is generally dose-dependent.
† Single bolus dose at induction is followed by remifentanil TCI, remifentanil constant rate infusion or alfentanil constant rate infusion. §.
Titration to Effect: The rapid elimination of remifentanil permits the titration of infusion rate without concern for prolonged duration. In general, every 0.1-mcg/kg/min change in the IV infusion rate will lead to a corresponding 2.5-ng/mL change in blood remifentanil concentration within 5 to 10 minutes.
