Though I do have a gripe with the device; the very same when I read Asimov's original way back when as well. In both cases the billiard ball was allowed to enter the field in its entirety before it sped away, where 'actually' it should have 'vanished' molecule layer by molecule layer as it entered the field. It maybe could have sped up as it was sucked into the field, but I even doubt that, since the molecule layers would leave far too fast for the pull through the covalent and ionic forces to propagate to the part of the ball that is still outside of the field. 🤷♂️🤪
