Pristiq and Effexor are basically the same drug, although Pristiq is a concentrated version of Effexor, in other words Pristiq is stronger, and both drugs are difficult to withdrawal from. I think because you switched out 50mg of Pristiq for 37.5mg of Effexor is the reason you are having such difficultly (as well as the 50% reduction of Pristiq).
Has anyone switched from Effexor to Pristiq? I m nervous about switching without tapering off as the Effexor withdrawals are truly terrible, however I m not sure if this will be an issue since it will be replaced with the pristiq.
i switched straight from pristiq to effexor, no taper. i was prescribed pristiq away at school (in a foreign country where name brand medications were common), then ended up hospitalized within a week of returning home. the psych hospital didn't have pristiq. i went from 50mg pristiq to 150mg effexor without any side effects.

Switching from Effexor to Pristiq LOL. what do some of these doctors even think with. It is very likely you will have the exact same effects and side-effects from Pristiq as with Effexor. As another poster here said they are almost the same drug.

We have a member who switched from Pristiq to Effexor and found that her switch from 50 mg Pristiq to 75 mg Effexor didn't feel quite right.
Switching from Effexor to Pristiq can still result in a withdrawal syndrome. These are not interchangeable drugs and not everyone will find
